Marriott International is in the process of building a five-star hotel in downtown Kigali and has pledged to employ several Akilah students at their new site. Prior to the opening of this hotel, Marriott will send a few lucky Akilah students to their Dubai location to train and gain experience before working in Kigali. In fall of 2011, the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, a Marriott property, hosted a fundraiser for Akilah with guest speaker Bob Zoellick, president of the World Bank.

Women for Women International supports women in war-torn regions with financial and emotional aid, job-skills training, rights education and small business assistance so they can rebuild their lives. Akilah and Women for Women have partnered to create a Culinary Arts Certificate program that is taught every Friday on the Akilah campus.


Education Generation is a community providing access to quality education for high potential students. We search the globe for innovative educational programs that are deeply rooted in the communities they work in, have a track record of success, and the potential to affect systemic change. Individuals from around the world contribute as little as $20 to support individual student scholarships for these programs. 100% of your donation (after paypal) is used for scholarship costs.

As part of the Ministry of Education, the Workforce Development Authority is responsible for overseeing the development of the vocational and technical training in Rwanda. The WDA has been provided critical support to Akilah since the beginning. The Akilah team is working closely with WDA to develop our curriculum. WDA conducted a full topographical land survey of the Akilah site, and engineers and architects from the Ministry of Education have visited the campus to provide more information regarding the availability of clean water, location of water sites, and options for electrical systems. The WDA also provided a qualitative survey, which provided Akilah with our initial estimates for renovation and construction.

The Rwandan Ministry of Education works closely with the WDA to oversee the development of vocational and technical training. MINEDUC has provided full support to Akilah in taking over a former government school to renovate as the Akilah campus.


Terra Incognita EcoTours is a renowned travel agency that pledges to engage in responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people. Twenty Akilah students recently had the opportunity to visit the gorillas in May 2011 with Terra Incognita.


Girls For Change provides girls with professional female role models, leadership training and the inspiration to work together in teams to solve persistent societal problems in their communities. GFC has provided Akilah with the materials to start its own chapter, and contributed to the development of a toolkit for our Social Change Projects.

 

 

Media Works is an Adult Education and Training (ABET) provider with the drive and energy to tackle illiteracy in South Africa and the rest of the world. They have generously donated curriculum and educational materials, such as facilitator guides, workbooks, and CD’s with multimedia software for English and Math.

 

The mission of Teach A Man To Fish is to change the world through restructuring education in the developing countries. TAMTF works to empower independence, dignity, and sustainability of young people from poor families who live in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Akilah and TAMTF partnered together to develop business plans for campus social enterprises, especially Akilah Adventures.

Contact FM is a popular Rwandan radio station that broadcasts throughout the country. Akilah and Contact FM have partnered to produce a weekly radio show every Friday at 10am that focuses on customer care and the hospitality industry. Each week two new students are chosen to go to the station and speak on the show, with an Akilah staffmember as chaperone. Students prepare a topic and five questions for their respective show. Contact FM has also generously run Akilah announcements for applications on their radio show free of charge.
