ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Akilah is searching for an energetic candidate for the position of Entrepreneurship Program Director. This individual will be responsible for the design and implementation of the launch of the Akilah Entrepreneurship Track with 25 students in its inception year: September 10, 2012 through May 30, 2013.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director will play an integral role in providing pedagogical leadership, vision and guidance for thesmooth and effective implementation of this new Akilah academic offering. The Program Director will develop curriculum, syllabi and lesson plans/materials, and also work closely and collaboratively with the instructional staff. The Program Director will be responsible for providing ongoing professional training and development opportunities for Akilah staff and instructors. In addition, the Program Director will play a lead role in building, maintaining and growing relationships with Akilah current and future academic, government, private sector and community partners.
Akilah students take 14 core courses in the Business Diploma (IT, accounting, Public Speaking, English, etc.) and 10 Entrepreneurship Focus courses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic vision and leadership for the development of the new Entrepreneurship track and make sure that the department is aligned with Akilah’s overall academic goals, as well as Rwandan national goals and ministries
- Work closely with Executive Director to insure quality staffing, curriculum, professional development and student assessment data
- Create, maintain and supervise Entrepreneurship curriculum so that it provides students with a rigorous and relevant, world-based academic experience
- Design and lead ongoing professional development program for faculty. Introduce meaningful teaching practices for all faculty.
- Develop pipeline for recruiting, training and retaining high-quality instructors
- Oversee supervision and evaluation of faculty
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Hospitality Management Director to shape, coordination and implement all Akilah academic goals
- Lead effort to collect, analyze and use student data to strengthen academic program
- Oversee scheduling and programming of classes
- Ensure consistent implementation of Akilah’s rules and core values
- Oversee routine administrative duties related to academics, such as maintenance of textbook inventory and requisitioning educational materials
- Assist in selecting and processing the first class of 25 students
- Develop the Student Opportunity Fund, a business plan competition and loan fund for student enterprises
- Build partnerships with local financial institutions for overall program, but particularly to secure financing options for student developed businesses
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5-7 years of experience in a business management position
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Demonstrated passion for working with young women, empowering them through education, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a commitment to the mission of Akilah
- Excitement about working in a vibrant and evolving start-up environment
- Extraordinarily resilient, positive and pro-active character
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- An engaging and collaborative leadership style with mature interpersonal skills and the ability to juggle and manage multiple, competing priorities and deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases

ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM FELLOW
Akilah is searching for a Fellow to assist with the development, launch and implementation of the Business Diploma in Entrepreneurship. We are seeking a minimum commitment of 6 months with the anticipation of lengthening the scope and period of work. We expect the right candidate to begin around May 7, 2012.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Entrepreneurship Program Director in developing new academic program and curriculum for September 2012 launch
- Conduct curriculum research
- Meet with local business partners to identify opportunities for student internships
- Additional duties as assigned by the Program Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated passion for entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment
- Experience conducting research or developing academic modules
- Excitement for working in a dynamic, start-up environment

COUNSELOR
We are seeking a passionate individual to work in a full-time capacity with Akilah students as their spiritual advisor and academic counselor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet with each student individually to help ensure their emotional and spiritual well-being as well as academic success
- Help each student identify the barriers to their personal and academic achievements in order to help them overcome them and improve their overall performance
- Efficiently structure and administer counseling program, to include student files, records of progress and reporting
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in working in a counselor or advisor role with youth
- Graduate degree in theology, counseling, or social work
- Passion for working with women in a start-up environment, while helping each individual student to reach her full potential in the academic arena and personal development
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Applicants must be fluent in Kinyarwanda and English.
