We had a lot of fun in 2014. Here’s a look at some of the things that made us smile in the past year and why we’re looking forward to 2015!
Technology is everywhere
Many students use computers for the first time at Akilah. Visiting families are the most impressed by our state-of-the-art computer labs.
There’s a club or activity for every student’s niche interest
Student Body President Elyse Igihozo just launched a student-run monthly newspaper written by our budding student journalists.
Students launch businesses even before they graduate
Nida’s Bites, a restaurant run by student Nida Iraguha, is a faculty favorite for Friday takeout!
We have a campus nursery
Student mothers bring their kids to the campus nursery, because we don’t believe that motherhood should be a barrier to education.
Paper? That’s SO 2014
Students get Kindle readers so they can study even when the electricity at home cuts out.
Social Change Projects teach students to lead and to give back
Students complete over 80 hours in community service.
Our girls can code
With our new Information Systems major, Rwanda will have more female programmers, systems analysis, database managers.
We’re definitely the only college in East Africa with our own music video!
In 2014, we opened Akilah’s second campus in Burundi, and we couldn’t be happier. So we showed off our dance moves in our first-ever music video, #HappyInBurundi, based on Pharrell Wiliams’ hit song, “Happy”.
