As the first institution of higher education in Rwanda and Burundi open exclusively to young women, we take seriously our role in educating, empowering, and supporting women. Every year, International Women’s Day affords Akilah students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to collaborate with our partners on some great initiatives.
Akilah has four events lined up this March, and we’re excited to take part!
Friday, March 7, 9 am: The newly-opened Burundi campus will host a panel of guest speakers and roundtable events with students. Women leaders in business, development, education and community building, will introduce themselves and their work to the students. Following the panel, students will be joining small group discussions with the panelists for more in depth conversations on women’s empowerment and leadership. Location: Akilah campus in Bujumbura, Burundi.
Saturday, March 8, 7:30 pm: Executive Director Lisa Lamprecht speaks at WomenWerk’s “Century of the African Woman” Forum & Gala. Location: 524 West 59th Street, 6th Floor, NYC. Purchase tickets.
