Alumnae Association Launch Party
Thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend for our official Akilah Institute Alumnae Association launch and celebration, including special guests Esther Mbabazi and Rex Nijhof and Yulia Bogdanova of Kigali Marriott Hotel! The Alumnae Association is a fast-growing community (soon to be joined by the Class of 2017) celebrating the achievements of our graduates and providing our alumnae with a network of support as they develop their careers. On building a successful career in a predominantly male industry, panelist Esther Mbabazi, Rwanda's 1st female pilot, shared:"At the end of the day, it's really about the skills you have and doing what you love. You see so many people with degrees and master's who can't find jobs, but you have to be the one to turn your education into marketable skills. After I graduated, I saw a BBC documentary called 'School's out, skills are in!' and it inspired me to learn to fly and become a pilot, because I knew I could build a career out of that. And I love it. You really have to love what you do. As they say, if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life!"HR Director at the Kigali Marriott Yulia Bogdanova shared similar sentiments: "The practical skills you've gained at Akilah are incredible; I've worked with Akilah for two years, and you are all really very well equipped for any field. But be very clear with yourself: don't just go for the 'fancy' career, or the 'money-making' career because you cannot build a career doing something you are not passionate about. Decide what it is you really want to do, what you really love, and you will be successful." Ready to join the Akilah community?
