The Akilah Group is looking for an extraordinary Social Media Manager based out of our Hong Kong office. The Akilah Group is a collection of social enterprises that uses innovative educational models and technology to achieve transformational change in African communities.

The Akilah Institute is the only women’s college in Rwanda and Burundi. The Akilah Institute opened in 2010.
The Role:

We’re looking for a creative, detail-obsessed Social Media Manager to execute both Akilah Institute and Akilah Net’s social digital strategies and content creation. You should be a social media addict with a strong understanding of analytics and the ability to understand and adapt to the Akilah “voice.” We need a content curator who is hungry for information, effective at monitoring, has professional on-the-spot communication skills,is a quick decision-maker, has good judgment, and a strong interest in East African news and trends.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

o Develop, manage and post the social media content calendar for the brands – including visuals and copy in the brand aesthetic and voice – across our global social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
o Create and adapt content for each specific network, engaging with each unique audience, i.e. creating images and graphics to accompany Facebook and Twitter posts, curating photos and videos for visual platforms like Instagram, and coming up with several iterations of post copy
o Ensure that the social media content calendar includes the right balance of original brand content plus user-generated content.
o Ensure that the social media content calendar includes the appropriate breakdown of approved content verticals.
o Execute goals of the social digital strategy within the context of the annual Communications strategy.
o Track trends/news with momentum on social media and brainstorm with Communications team new content ideas, reposts, retweets, regrams so brands are participating in relevant daily social media conversations.
o Tactfully capitalize on relevant news stories, trends, or hashtags.
o Effectively manage all internal requests for social media coverage and build requested content into the social media calendar.
o Engage in daily ongoing, 2 way proactive conversations with followers in a social media friendly voice, as well as respond to questions, with speed and sound judgment.
o Develop, present to the Communications team and implement ongoing ideas for engaging with followers, including but not limited to maximizing user generated content and leveraging influencers and advocates.
o Advise and provide guidelines when markets are launching on new social platforms.
o Advise on paid social content for campaigns or daily usage.
o On an everyday basis, identify issues, patterns and trends in consumer comments/inquiries on social media and funnel information via reports every month, including analyzing data/analytics and providing actionable insights
o Stay up to date on new social media tools, best practices and how other organizations and companies are using them, so that the organization can be an early adopter of these technologies.
o Share social media best practices with Communications team and executives, and any other relevant stakeholders.
o Demonstrate 24/7 approach to responsibilities.
